IAGLR-OMNR Student Travel Award

Regulations and Application Procedures

Application Deadline: April 1

Purpose: The IAGLR-OMNR Student Travel Award is designed to promote student attendance at the annual conference by subsidizing a portion of the costs of travel to and from the meeting. Student participation at the IAGLR conference is integral to the atmosphere of the meeting as well as to students' education.

Number and Value of Awards: Within its budgetary limits and terms of reference, IAGLR will reimburse up to $150 US per person for the costs associated with travel.

Eligibility: To be eligible to receive an IAGLR-OMNR Student Travel Award, an individual must be a student enrolled at an accredited university. A nonstudent is eligible if they are within four months of beginning or having completed a university degree. A student or their advisor or sponsor is expected to be a member of IAGLR.

Application Procedures: Application is made on a two-page form, completed by the student and endorsed by their advisor or sponsor. No other materials are required. A copy of the application form (PDF) can be printed from the IAGLR web site. Copies of the form can also be requested from the IAGLR Business Office. Applications must be received by the deadline indicated above. Group applications (several students planning to travel in a single vehicle) are encouraged.

Successful applicants will be notified of an award before the conference registration deadline. Applicants must register for the conference by the registration deadline to remain eligible for the award.

Criteria for Judging: Funds are limited. Students who plan to travel in groups to economize will receive higher priority than individuals traveling alone. Preference will be given to individuals presenting at the conference but nonpresenters are also encouraged to apply. No distinction will be made between poster and oral presentations. Higher priority will be given to students traveling greater distances.

Terms and Conditions of Awards: To receive a check for their award, winners must submit travel receipts or verified documentation of their costs to the IAGLR Business Office. Receipts may be left for the Student Board Member at the Registration Desk for the annual meeting, or must be received by the student board member within 30 days of the end of the conference. Reimbursements will be made to students for actual travel expenses using fixed Federal mileage rates based on estimated travel distances or other travel fare schedules.
